Oh So Karis

She's never colored in the lines.
She's never traced the dotted letters.
She's never liked paint with water.
She asks for envelopes and tape for Christmas.
She can write and draw in mirror image without realizing it.
She is by all definitions UNIQUE.
And I wouldn't have her any other way!

Yesterday she spent the afternoon designing shoes for her shoe company. Eden declared herself the manager while Karis is purely in charge of new designs. I particularly love the velcro shoe - basically it's a shoe bottom with velcro on it so that it sticks to your sock. The girl may be on to something!

Today she occupied herself by creating masks. Now, unlike the shoes, the masks may not have wide retail value - but they sure did bring a smile to my face on a cold, dreary, snowy afternoon!

Daily I face the challenge of recognizing the unique strengths and weaknesses of my children and learning how to support them in their strengths and encourage them to work on their weaknesses. And often times our strengths and weaknesses are so closely tied that it's hard to separate them. It took a little bit of arm twisting to convince Karis that until her shoe business is lucritive enough to hire janitorial staff she must clean up after herself. I'll continue to support her in her creativity while encouraging her to be tidier and clean-up after herself. Speaking of which - she left a huge mess in the family room. Time to encourage the clean-up!
