At the Confessional

It's time for another edition of True Confessions.
Today - a random assortment of confessions.
I attempted to confess by category (ie kitchen confessions, kid confessions) but stream of thought works better for me. So here we go ...

Confession #1
I used to have a problem with talking before I think.
Now I type before I think.
Both get me in trouble at times.

Confession #2

I took my son to a birthday party at the bowling alley.
The teenager working the desk asked me my son's shoe size.
I had NO idea.
I sheepishly guessed.
I was off by TWO sizes.

Confession #3

I asked my daughter to remove her hat at piano lessons.
She handed it to me.
I looked at the tag.
Size 2T. She's 8.
I MUST get around to cleaning out the hat and glove bin.

Confession #4
We have company (friends!) coming for dinner.
I have no time to clean.
I just filled my sink with hot water and Pine Sol.
I guarantee you that I won't get around to cleaning.
BUT - it will SMELL like I cleaned!
Shh ... don't tell!

I'm on a roll with these confessions. But I better stop while I still have your respect.
If you have a blog I challenge you to post your own confessions.
If you don't have a blog - comment here.
You'll be happy you did.

Cooking Confessions

It's a two-fer day.
Today you get two posts in one.
I'm combining a "true confessions" post with a "what's cooking" post - it's Cooking Confessions. True confessions in the kitchen.
This whole confession thing feels good. Try out and let me know what you think!

Confession #1
I don't like salad.

I know I should like salad.
I eat it because I think I should.
But it takes so long to chew and I'm just not patient enough to chew that much for such a little bit of food energy.
Other people claim that they feel so good after eating a salad. Not me. My stomach just feels yucky (good descriptive word isn't it - yucky!). I'll tell myself that I'm allergic to salad. That's it - I've got an allergy.
Salads that I do like include Taco Salad and Greek Salad with no lettuce.
Salads that I don't like, everything with lettuce.

Confession #2
I give the kids Aunt Jemima syrup. George and I use the real maple syrup.
Please tell me that someone else does this. Please ... there's got to be another mom out there who knows that their kids don't have a discerning enough pallet to appreciate the real deal. Anyone with me on this one?

Confession #3
Ultimate comfort food for me is this easy-peasy Tomato Veggie Soup.
It's embarrassingly easy but remarkably yummy.

Brown some ground beef
Add some frozen veggies
Dump in a large can/bottle of tomato juice
Serve with 50% off day old buns from the grocery store

With my confessions out of the way, here's what's on the menu this week.

Monday
Pad Thai left-overs for the grown-ups
Mac and Cheese for the kids (recipe on the side-bar)

Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner
Pumpkin Pancakes and Granola Pancakes
Smoothies
and of course Bacon

Wednesday
Steak and Cheese Pie (served as beef stew - without the topping)
Dinner Rolls courtesy of PW

Thursday

Coconut Curry Fish with Rice and Peas

Friday
Nachos and Wings

Saturday
Left-overs (I think)

Confessions

I should make this a regular weekly blog post.
Confessions.
It's healthy to confess isn't it.
Catholics got a good thing going with their weekly (or so?) confessions.

Confession #1:

My kids made their own lunch today while I was glued to the computer watching what Apple had to offer us. I don't even own a mac (yet!) - but my husband and daughter have me sold on everything Apple. There you go - in the midst of horrific chaos and devastation in Haiti and I'm coveting the iPad. And what's up with the name iPad? I guarantee you they didn't have a woman on the naming committee. What's wrong with iTab?

Confession #2:
I'm Spatially Challenged.
I can cook and I can clean.
Trouble comes when I am attempting to clean up the cooking.
I NEVER ... no exaggeration ... never get the Tupperware right.
For example:

and:

I underestimate the amount of food, overestimate the size of the container - and vise-verse.
Someone tell me I'm not alone in this?

Confession #3:

I have a list of about 10 unfinished projects.
I am a starter. I have a lot of good ideas. I need help finishing.
Thus my word of the year:
FINISH
If I had one word to use as my goal for 2010 it would be FINISH.
I am not allowing myself to begin another project until I have finished what I've started.

There you go.
It's off my chest.
I've confessed.
But the thing about confession is that it's no good to confess and not do anything about it.
What to do ... what to do ...
How about I finish my obsession with MAC by buying the iPad and defeat my spatial relation issues by finding a new bag that is the perfect size for the iPad. There you go. Done and done.

Not really ...
