Not In The Books

It was one of those "not so booky" kind of a weeks around our homeschool last week.

We got a call from a friend who said that she had 1 week old kittens, a five day old goat and lots of baby chicks at her farm. It is spring after all. So we hopped on over and learned a little about life on the farm.

As we collected eggs, picked greens and rhubarb and snuggled with an assortment of furry animals I had romantic visions of homesteading. Short-lived romantic visions - especially since I can't imagine butchering my own meat. But there's something about farm life that seems attractive from afar.

Earlier in the week we happened upon super cheap tickets to a Stratford Festival performance of Peter Pan and enjoyed a day at the theatre followed by a picnic in the park and a little impromptu photo shoot.

In the spirit of Peter Pan, let's play a quick game of "Eye-Spy". Can you find a picture of a child walking the plank? How about the child who learned to fly? And finally, can you spot the infamous Black Swan of Stratford?

As we are finishing up a history unit on 17th and 18th century America we made ourselves some Native inspired flat bread. Just like the pioneers made it ... well, except that we had electricity, ground flour, and a frying pan!

And finally, Wednesday night marked the end of our AWANA program. Four families from Connections participate in AWANA held at the local Baptist church. I've said it before but it is an amazing program - filled with Bible memory, teaching and lots of fun.

Karis came within two weeks of finishing a book and Justin and Eden both received awards for completing a book. And on top of that we were shocked to hear that Eden won the overall award for her age group. We are so thankful for the opportunity our kids have to learn from these dedicated leaders.

Some weeks are like last week. Full of activities and memories. Some weeks we spend more time in the books. It ebbs and it flows. I like it that way.
