Cinco de Mayo

I'm always looking for an excuse to throw a party. And now a days all it takes is Google calendar and you can find a nationality with a holiday on any given day. So - in light of the origins of the Swine Flu and in recognition of the day the Mexicans beat the snot out of the French we grabbed a sombrero and celebrated CINCO DE MAYO (May 5) with our small group this past Sunday night.

It was a true night of bonding for the group. The grown men challenged each other to a game of Beat-the-Heat with the Inferno hot sauce - and then proceeded to challenge the young boys to join the fun! Silly hats abounded. And we ate a lot of food - thanks be to allrecipes.com. Check out a few of the recipes: Carne Asada, Fish Tacos , Corn and Black Bean Salad, and Refried Beans.

So - if you're looking for a fiesta Mexican style try Cinco de Mayo. And don't be afraid of the Fish Tacos - follow the recipe exactly and you'll never have ground beef tacos from a package again. OK - maybe you will, but my guess is that you'll like the fish tacos if you give them a try!

p.s. Looking at the silly hats in this photo makes me wonder what's next a Chinese holiday or a cowboy holiday. Anyone ever hear of a Chinese Cowboy? Chinese cowboy food ... hmmm.
